Room of Icons

Petit Palais, Paris

The Paris Museum of Fine Arts, also known as Petit Palais, features one of the largest collections of Byzantine icons in France, which was donated by the industrialist and collector Roger Cabal (1927-1997).

In 2018, MUEVO undertook the complete reconstruction of the room that houses the Byzantine icons that date after the fall of the Byzantine Empire.

On this occasion, we produced display cases with magnetic suspensions for the icons, whilst reproducing the visual effects of wood’s surface and texture, without using organic materials for conservation purposes.

We further developed a more safe way to open the display cases, providing easy access to humidity and lighting control.

The color and lighting conditions of the space were redesigned as to create an atmosphere of devotion, as well as to highlight the difference of this room from the rest of the Museum. The Byzantine icons are now presented in an elegant and equally safe environment in MUEVO’s custom showcases.
