Archaeological Museum of Agios Nikolaos

Crete, Greece

The Archaeological Museum of Agios Nikolaos in Crete reopened in April 2023 after 12 years of renovation works.

Established in 1969, the Museum boasts a vast collection of more than 2500 antiquities dating from the Neolithic Age to Roman times, and sourced from the wider Lasithi area.

MUEVO was proud to implement the new museography, in one of the first museum projects that we entirely completed in our home country, Greece.

This project entailed the delivery of more than 200 custom glass display cases, and more than 100 unique structures to support the highly scenic concept that guided the museum’s renovation.

Given this, our design team was able to experiment with and apply innovative techniques and materials in the museum’s display solutions.

A special note should be made for the glass-raised floor that covers two tons of sea sand, resulting in a unique setting for the antiquities presented in that room.

Our work for the Archaeological Museum of Agios Nikolaos was a special project that we shall hold dearly in our hearts. The archaeological treasures of Agios Nikolaos’ Museum are now presented in MUEVO’s high-quality showcases.

Completion Date: 2023

Type: Permanent Collection
