It is with great honor that we undertook the construction of a unique showcase for Otto’s royal regalia, now on permanent display at the Hellenic Parliament.
The royal insignia of Otto are the first official insignia of the modern Greek State. They were commissioned by his father, Ludwig, specifically for Otto’s coronation in 1835 – the same year as his coming of age. As the ship transporting them was delayed, the coronation ceremony took place without them. Following an adventurous journey inside and outside Greece, they finally returned to our country after many decades.
In summer 2023, the crown, scepter and sword of King Otto were discovered in good condition at Tatoi, the former royal estate, during documentation work by Ministry officials. Following the Ministry’s plan, the artefacts were immediately sent to the Directorate for the Conservation of Ancient and Modern Monuments, and then delivered to the Hellenic Parliament, to be exhibited under the representation of Otto on horseback in the interior frieze.
In this context, MUEVO developed a one-off showcase for the royal insignia of King Otto of Greece, which now form part of the exhibition narrative in the impressive Hall of Eleftherios Venizelos.
