Description

The Paris Museum of Fine Arts, also known as Petit Palais, features one of the largest collections of Byzantine icons in France, which was donated by the industrialist and collector Roger Cabal (1927-1997).

MUEVO recently undertook the complete reconstruction of the room that houses the Byzantine icons that date after the fall of the Byzantine Empire.

On this instance, we produced display cases with magnetic suspensions for the icons, whilst reproducing the visual effects of wood’s surface and texture, without using organic materials for the purposes of maintenance. We further developed a more safe way to open the display cases, with easy access to humidity and lighting control.

The color and lighting conditions of the space were redesigned as to create an atmosphere of devotion, as well as to highlight the differences of said room from the  rest of the museum. The Byzantine icons are now presented in an elegant and equally safe environment.
